Transformation Through God’s Word

“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” – 2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)

Lydia's bibleDo any of you women remember a Christian organization called Women’s Aglow? Ladies in our church served on its board back in the early 1980’s, and many of us regularly attended the monthly meetings and yearly retreats. The speakers were amazing.

I remember one speaker sharing about a difficult area in her life and how it had taken her 20 years to work through that particular problem. “20 years!?” I thought to myself, all the while wondering what took her so long. I was in my early 20’s and a brand new Christian, and was convinced it would never take me that long to make changes in my life. I was totally clueless and couldn’t have been more wrong!

For many, surrendering our lives to Christ and accepting Him as Lord and Savior is a quick, easy, one-time event. Living in a Christ-like manner, renewing our minds, and being conformed into His image can take much more than 20 years. It often takes a lifetime.

Being rooted in the Word of God is key to helping us make those changes. The Bible says, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires” – Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)

Has God spoken to you about a problem area in your life He wants to help you with? Has your way of dealing with it failed to bring freedom? Make time to read and study the Bible for His way of dealing with the issue at hand.

Prayer: Lord, give us a love for your Word. May we diligently search through its pages until we find the answers we need. Amen.
